The Friends of LCVM

The Friends of LCVM are responsible for management of the Park’s activities, events, and upkeep. The Friends first met in December 2023 to finalize design and building logistics. During construction, the Lake Cherokee Community Foundation (LCCF) took over fundraising and management, however, now that the Park is nearing completion, LCCF will be stepping down, allowing The Friends to manage the Park’s future.

Miguel Fabbiani and Barrett Newsom were selected in April 2025 to co-lead The Friends. They will be coordinating veterans’ projects, events, activities, and maintenance & upkeep of the Park. Some ideas we’ve tossed around include:

  • Veterans fishing events

  • Offering the Park for ceremonies and memorial services for veterans

  • Improving the Park to include benches, gardens, and serene landscape

  • Replacing flags - the winds at Persimmon Point can be wicked! All 10 flags will probably need replacing annually.

  • Upkeep of the grounds. CWC will be mowing the lawn, but volunteers will need to keep it weed-free, and manage garden beds, plant trees/bushes as needed, and just keep the site beautiful.

Miguel and Barrett would love your help!

The Flag Guy

The Flag Guy (Greg Murphy) has generously offered to put up 10 flags at the Veterans Memorial on 6 holidays in 2025. The cost is $50 per flag per year (6 holidays).

Greg volunteers with the Danville Masonic Lodge to put up flags in yards on 6 patriotic holidays each year. All proceeds go to $1000 monetary awards for graduating seniors of Sabine and Kilgore HIgh Schools .

If you would like him to put up flags in your yards (lake side or road side), contact him at (903) 983-0159 and tell him thank you for supporting the Lake Cherokee Veterans Memorial!

The Flag Guy and his flags

Greg buries a flag pole “receiver” and then caps it (3rd picture) so that lawn mowers won’t hit it. For each holiday, he comes back, removes the cap and inserts the flag pole.
